Lancashire can expect another day of extreme heat as the UK is set to experience its hottest day on record.
While temperatures in some parts of the country could hit an unprecedented 41C, Lancashire will feel its own strain as some parts of the county hit 37C, only 1.7C lower than the previous record for anywhere in the country.
National Rail has also told customers only to travel if “absolutely necessary”. A spokesperson said: “There will be delays, cancellations and last-minute changes to train services due to the unprecedented record heat.” Two teenagers had to be rescued after getting into difficulty in the sea at Blackpool yesterday, while teenagers have continued to visit a dangerous quarry in Appley Bridge despite the recent death of teenager Jamie Lewin. The 16-year-old from Southport was pulled from the water earlier this month.
There are also warnings of wildfires, with people asked not to use barbecues or leave litter that could spark fires in the countryside. In West Lancashire alone, crews from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service spent more than four hours dealing with grass fires yesterday.
