Facebook users responded to the woman’s post by pointing out the bizarre phenomenon usually indicates a lightning strike is imminent.
One Facebook commentator said the woman was ‘lucky to be alive and walking’ after the experience
Later posting a photo of the bizarre phenomenon, known as ‘static hair’, on Facebook, she explained she could hear thunder rolling across the French coast, about 25 kilometres away.As one person wrote: ‘You were at risk of being struck, believe it or not you were a lightning rod standing on the beach projecting above the surrounding landscape.Another user further clarified: ‘An electric charge builds up as part of a “positive lightning strike”.‘The charge is what makes your hair stand up.
Between 30 and 60 people are hit by lightning every year in the UK, with the rate of fatalities between 5% and 10%
