Actors have always been absolutely central to the work I make, and the way I work with them has continually evolved over the years. In the early days, I would write an outline, a script, and then cast actors that were suitable for the roles as written. It was a pretty normal way of working.
So there I was with an idea that was entirely suited to, and inspired by, Gemma. I wrote it and kept sending drafts to her and it became a really intense and collaborative working relationship.
