It has fallen into disrepair
For more than a century the iconic Imperial Mill has acted as a gateway landmark to the eastern side of Blackburn.
Imperial Mill was one of many in Blackburn whose industry relied on cotton weaving. During the First World War however the supply of raw cotton was halted and the industry never recovered which led to the demise of many mills.The Bank of England set up the Lancashire Cotton Corporation in 1929 in an attempt to save the industry and Imperial Mill was one of 104 mills bought by LCC. Its chimney was demolished in 1958 but the remainder of the mill has been left mostly intact.
"It's such a stunning and iconic building," the 68-year-old told LancsLive. "I come down here at least once a week and I'm always struck by its architectural beauty. "It would be fantastic to see it renovated. You can see it for miles around and it really is a great landmark to welcome you into Blackburn."
