The SSPCA have issued a warning after the pup was returned to the water before they could rescue it, with the young seal eventually dying.
An injured seal pup has died after being thrown back into the water by a member of the public. Officers from the Scottish SPCA were called to Roseisle, near Elgin, earlier this month after being alerted to the animal having a gash on its head.
The following week, officers were called to another report of an injured seal matching the same injuries and description at Portgordon, further east along the Moray coast. The pup was rescued and taken into the charity's National Wildlife Centre to be checked over but sadly, it died from its injuries.
"I took him to our National Wildlife Centre to be checked over but sadly the seal died from his injuries. Had this seal been left alone to be assessed by our team when he was first spotted it’s possible he would have survived. "Even young seals have the potential to cause injury. Never touch a seal or attempt to carry or chase them back into the sea. Seals often haul out on land to rest and usually this is nothing to worry about.
