Bittersweet day for Reggae Girlz as they hold highly rated France but star striker Bunny Shaw sees redTHE BATTLING Reggae Girlz fought brilliantly to a 0-0 draw with France in the Group F opener of FIFA Women’s World Cup,A late second yellow card to Khadija “Bunny” Shaw left a sour taste in Jamaican’s mouth, but the island nation battled through to their first ever point at a World Cup against the fifth ranked French.
Four minutes in they began their tussle with a hefty clash of heads off a corner kick, thankfully both were fine to continue. Les Blues found it difficult to cope with Jamaica’s press for large portions of the first 45, with most of their opportunities coming by way of set pieces. Moments later Shaw’s vicious free kick from 30 yards was not far away from opening the scoring, fizzing agonisingly wide of the post.
Diani was the consistent threat for Les Blues, her 53rd minute header was wide of the mark but the dynamic forward continued to find herself in dangerous areas.
