A stunning corner of Lancashire
The woodland walk to Woodwell Spring is almost as blissful as the hidden beauty spot itself. Every couple of meters you'll come across a country cottage set back among the trees, with the single-track lane lined with colourful patches of bluebells, snowdrops, primrose, valerian, orchids and dandelions.
But if you keep going straight, you'll soon hear the distant trickle of water flowing down a rockface and the lane will open up and a large basin will greet you. You have found Woodwell, one of the many natural wells and springs in Silverdale which once supplied water for villagers and livestock in the area.
Despite its apparent remoteness, Woodwell is easily accessible from the main road and has its own small car park. It is also the perfect base for a hike, taking you through the National Trust pathways or into Warton Crag, an area of outstanding natural beauty AONB.
