She was sacked over accounting errors - but then unearthed a scandal
A sacked sub postmistress from a small Lancashire coastal town challenged her dismissal and set the ball rolling to uncover of the biggest miscarriages of justice the UK has ever seen.
Speaking at the Post Office Horizon IT Inquiry on Wednesday , Mr Coyne asked for similar call logs to be provided from branches with a similar profile to the Cleveleys branch, to establish whether Ms Wolstenholme’s calls were reasonable, However he was told no comparative logs were available. Speaking at the inquiry into the Horizon the expert said the Horizon accounting system was “absolutely flawed.
He also noted that calls from Ms Wolstenholme to the helpdesk increased following a system update in October 2000. Mr Coyne’s report was submitted to Fujitsu, the firm which developed the Horizon system. In their response, Fujitsu said several other Post Offices were experiencing hardware or implementation issues. However Mr Coyne told the inquiry he was disadvantaged as he had not been provided with comparable call logs.
