Here are our five talking points from Leeds United's 4-3 win over Ipswich Town at Portman Road in the Championship as Georginio Rutter, Wilfried Gnonto, Joel Piroe and Luis Sinisterra come up trumps
The 2pm line-up announcement promised much and finally felt like a flexing of Leeds United muscles in the Championship. At £70m, this was a Whites frontline which absolutely should be putting second-tier defences to the sword, but expectation and reality are rare bedfellows.
To see a confident striker following up the rebound to Sinisterra’s initial effort and then applying the calm finish it needed was a breath of fresh air. Much like Rutter’s wonderful solo strike. As it was, Farke had little choice, but to select his returning stars, especially against in-form opposition and their own wait for a win starting to drag. The German was vindicated in their performances, but the acid test was always going to be with the 2,000 die-hards in the away end.
If there are still questions about Drameh’s current ability to sink or swim in the top flight, he has firmly answered any doubts about his second-tier credentials. And yet, the minutes have not materialised as yet. Drameh had his hands on his head, but only a few minutes later, Farke would be hooking him in the dressing room and sending on Jamie Shackleton. A substitute substituted, one of Marcelo Bielsa’s old, ruthless calling cards.
Junior Firpo is still unavailable and miles away from match time given he missed virtually all of pre-season. Then there is Byram and Leo Hjelde, who was overlooked by Farke twice yesterday as he chose right-backs rather than the Norwegian to play on their weaker side.
