Historical figures have been depicted on Bank of England notes since 1970, when William Shakespeare appeared on a new £20 note. Florence Nightingale, Charles Darwin and Sir Christopher Wren have been among those to feature in the intervening half-century – and this summer it’s the turn of mathematician Alan Turing, who’ll grace the £50 note from June 23.
