It comes as the new Health Secretary Thérèse Coffey is due to spell out how she will aim to fix the NHS and social care system amid severe backlogs and an ongoing staffing crisis

Ms Truss has committed to reversing the National Insurance increase which was introduced under the previous government to fund clearing the NHS backlog before later being syphoned into social care reform.

The Government introduced major reforms to the social care system last year, but the plans quickly came under fire after it emerged that some Brits would be forced to sell their home to cover their care costs. But asked whether she would stick to the Conservatives’ 2019 election promise that no one would have to put their house on the market to pay for their care, Ms Truss replied: “I am.”
