There's been a pause in result declarations - but they are expected to resume shortly, at around midday;has insisted that although the results so far are"disappointing", it is"still early", with declarations expected until 8pm;09:50:01Our political editor Beth Rigby has outlined the most important takeaways so far for Labour, the Conservatives and the Lib Dems from this last electoral test before the general election.

A senior figure in the party told her they may gain more than 300 seats, despite 150 projected as a very good night. Rigby adds that Rishi Sunak was"meant to be the person that smoothed over some of the bad recent memories" but the results so far show that he is not"picking up any support at all".Keir Starmer has just told Labour councillors and supporters they"blew the doors off" as he celebrated victory in Medway, which the party won for the first time this morning.

The leader of the Opposition said the party is on course for a majority at the next general election, having won back the trust of voters.said Mr Starmer was"clearly delighted" compared to when she has seen him looking"quite broken" at previous local elections.
