Measles warning as MMR vaccination rates fall again - see what's happening in your area
Parents have been urged to take their children for MMR jabs as figures show vaccination rates have reached new lows in parts of England.
There is only one local authority area - Bath and North East Somerset - which has the target vaccination rate of 95 per cent. However, Scotland and Wales have managed to keep up the 95 per cent vaccination targets required to suppress measles outbreaks. To avoid the risk of a measles outbreak in London, the NHS began a polio and MMR catch up programme in London in May 2023.
You can contact your GP practice to check your vaccination record, discuss any questions and make an appointment with the practice nurse to catch up on any missed doses of MMR.” Measles is currently spreading in London, with 128 cases of measles confirmed in England between 1 January 2023 and 30 June 2023, 85 of which were in London.
Levels of measles, mumps and rubella vaccinations in the UK are at their lowest level in a decade, with around one in ten children not protected by the time they start primary school.
