Josh Warrington has explained how his career has become linked to Leigh Wood in recent years ahead their fight for the WBA featherweight world title this weekend
‘The Leeds Warrior’ faces a tough test to become a world champion for a third time as he takes on the Nottinghamshire fighter. He is on the comeback trail after losing his IBF crown in a close decision loss to Luis Alberto Lopez at the end of last year.
“When I first started coming through I think Leigh was probably around the same level that I was at the time,” Warrington told Dazn . “We were probably looking for British Title fights, domestic title fights. I think at the time he’d taken to Twitter, mentioned my name a few times. I thought our paths might have crossed earlier to be honest with you.
Warrington admits that, in an alternate world, a couple more title defences potentially could have led to him hanging up his gloves. Luckily for boxing fans, though, the 32-year-old promises to be part of an all-action world title fight on Saturday
