She messaged and asked if I could change this for ‘took his own life’, before sending another and asking for, ‘Was defeated by his demons’. She had lost her son but, her mum and dad did not like the word suicide and rather than see them upset she caused herself real stress by asking me to not mention ‘it’.It was no problem for me and my Editor just edited the word out, but it was evidence to demonstrate how much taboo still beats in the heart of the matter.
