SUNDAY MAIL EXCLUSIVE: Julie is demanding a change in the law after a 15-year-old boy who allegedly attacked her daughter did not face criminal prosecution.
A mum whose daughter’s alleged teenage rapist avoided court is not giving up the fight for justice by campaigning to the United Nations and the Scottish Parliament. The mum, identified only as Julie, is demanding a change in the law after her daughter Mya, who was 14 when the alleged attack happened and left devastated when a 15-year-old boy did not face criminal prosecution.
She is also behind a Scottish Parliament petition calling for change which she expects to go live next week. Julie, 54, from Ayrshire, said: “The law has to change because currently victims of rape and sexual assault are being denied justice on the basis on their attackers age and their right to be considered a child.
“This law has to change. All it does currently is protect the rights of offenders. What about the victim? Where is their justice, what about their rights? His case was dealt with by the Scottish Children’s Reporter Administration in agreement with the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service due to his age. The boy was instead referred for therapy and went on to join the Army.
