We've got the forecast and where is best to see them
The “cannibal” plasma wave which was launched at the Earth last week is set to be followed by a “dark eruption” on the surface of the Sun meaning that some lucky stargazers might get a glimpse of the aurora borealis this evening.
The countries who usually get to enjoy the phenomenon are Canada, Iceland, Greenland and Norway. However, because of the increased solar activity it means the North Lights will be visible further south than usual. It said in its forecast: "A couple of CMEs are likely to glance Earth over the next two days, leading to chance of minor or moderate geomagnetic storming and possible aurora sightings across Scotland, Northern Ireland and parts of northern England.
"The best conditions to view the lights are when the sky is dark and clear of any clouds. Cloud cover ultimately blocks the view of the light.
