She's calling for better warning signs
'Absolutely terrified' nurse Samantha Anthony was left waist-deep in water when her car became stuck in a flooding blackspot. The 54-year-old from Nottingham was travelling to visit a patient in the area on Sunday, July 23 at around 9.40pm, during a torrential downpour when the incident happened.
Church Hill Road has long been known as a flooding blackspot by those who live nearby. But the dip under the railway bridge is deceivingly deep to many drivers who do not know the road, often leaving cars stranded during or after heavy rain.Samantha said the flood depth gauges on the side of the bridge were not helpful during the heavy rain and poor visibility. She believes there should have been a "clear, flood warning" on the approach to the bridge.
With no way to get home on the night, she had to call her daughter - who had a five-week-old daughter - to pick her up from the scene. Samantha's patient also went without care for the night due to the "terrifying" ordeal. Samantha has now made a formal complaint to Leicestershire County Council about the lack of signage. Meanwhile, her car remains in situ and the road is closed in both directions.
