'It’s just so busy'
Nottingham drivers and pedestrians have spoken out about a junction described as the worst in the areas by readers. In a Nottinghamshire Live poll, the Valley Road junction with Hucknall Road junction was voted the worst in the city.
People have previously spoken out about the junction near the City Hospital and said that cars are bumping into each other ‘all the time.’ The junction in Sherwood is also next to a former McColls shop which is now vacant and announced its closure towards the end of 2022, a Subway shop, a Post Office and other independent businesses. In 2022, Nottingham City Council secured funding to improve the Hucknall Road 'corridor’ for people walking, cycling and using the buses.
“I can’t avoid it because I have to go round the roundabout to pick my kids up from school but I’ve seen many people have near misses here.” One Nottinghamshire Live reader called the junction ‘Nottingham's new 'kamikaze island.’ Other bad junctions according to Nottinghamshire Live readers include: Crown Island and David Lane Crossing, as well as Baums Lane in Mansfield.
Lisa Gray,, 31, of Sherwood who works in administration, said: “I drive down here from time to time, mainly to go to the McDonalds in Basford's drive through but I can see why it’s been voted the worst in Nottingham it’s just so busy. The junction is in between so many things: the hospital, people use it to get to Basford and Aspley, I’ve driven down here to pick my husband up from East Midlands Airport.”Paula Sampson lives in Sherwood.
