Patti Smith: 'Don't cherry pick the offensive parts of an artist's work' ⬇️ In this interview, the musician and artist talks about what it’s like to be a ‘20th-century artist living in the 21st century’

The Perfect Vision

Newly released as a box set alongside a disc of remixes from the likes of Brian Eno and Jim Jarmusch, it makes for an evocative, vivid collection, Smith reciting the poets’ work and delivering improvised monologues to a soundtrack of abstract, experimental soundscapes created by Stéphan Crasneanscki.

“When I was younger, political and aesthetic revolution were at the centre of my work. But as I have advanced in life, there are other areas I continue to explore: spirituality, human memory.” She calls herself a “humanist” and still yearns for some higher connection. “I always had the same goal: that people will have a transformative experience. I want people to be inspired.” It remains an eternal truth: listen to Patti Smith, and you can learn things about life.
