William Hanson has revealed several key mistakes people make when tucking into the popular flaky pastry.

While croissants are typically looked upon as a French staple, the people of the UK are also massive fans of the flaky pastry. Many enjoy this buttery treat with some jam - or even more butter - and a tea or coffee in the mornings.

William, author of The Buffer's Guide to Etiquette, said: "When you're enjoying a croissant, probably at breakfast, statistically, you don't dip the croissant into the coffee." The expert added: "Similarly, you don't actually use butter on a croissant. It is already buttered. It's an all-butter croissant. You don't need to add extra butter.

In the clip, William put a dollop of jam onto his plate before spreading it on the small piece of the croissant he had torn odd, telling viewers that they should be adding their topping "on the plate, not in the air".
