The new phone line under consideration would operate like the non-emergency NHS health line, 111, and would be made available to people going through the process of being signed off work sick. Advice would be offered to them about services available that may help them to adapt their work to better suit their needs.Ministers have already announced they are expanding the number of medical employees able to issue fit notes to take the pressure off stretched GPs.
This is despite the Government announcing a series of policies to drive this down, such as a promise of more mental health and musculoskeletal services.
