'Queen of crime' who helped solve Damilola Taylor case to lead new review of married couple's murder
A new police probe has been launched to find the killer who brutally murdered a married couple at their farmhouse 30 years ago today.
Dr Angela Gallop, who is often referred to as the queen of crime after solving many of the UK’s most notorious murder cases, will bring a new set of eyes to the case. Cheryl was concerned because it was out of character and she asked the neighbour to call in and check on them, but when he found the farmhouse empty and no sign of the couple alarms bells were sounded. It was then that the police were called and Cheryl said her boyfriend Jonathan Jones was going to drive to Llanharry too.
But why would anyone want to kill a couple in their 60s who very much kept themselves to themselves and appeared to have no enemies? From the start, police worked on the motive that it was all to do with money. The police appeared to be no further forward until five months later, when Jonathan was arrested and police announced they weren't looking for anyone else in connection with the investigation.
He was found guilty, and jailed for life in 1995, but in a strange twist of events, the judge who sentenced him wrote a letter to the Home Secretary saying he had "significant doubt" about the conviction. "Cheryl and I have not been happy with the resources they have put into this investigation, and I can't help feel this review may be like a very pretty looking dish of food, which you then discover comes from a dirty kitchen.""There are many lines of inquiry that are still outstanding and have not yet been investigated yet."
Senior investigating officer, Detective Superintendent Mark Lewis, says: "This week marks the 30th anniversary of the murders of Harry and Megan Tooze which remains unsolved. We hope that by using the latest, modern forensic techniques we can deliver justice for Harry and Megan.
