The nine days of closure – which will affect Stansted Express trains and services to and from Cambridge, Colchester, Ipswich, Norwich and Southend – may now need to be moved into January.The western half of the terminus, serving south London, Surrey and Sussex, was due to be shut from Christmas Day to Monday 2 January, with no Southern or Gatwick Express.
The delays, which will impact East Coast Main Line services between London King’s Cross, Newcastle, and Edinburgh, could also be moved into the first few months of 2023.The key stretch of the West Coast main line linking the West Midlands, northwest England and southern Scotland with the capital faces widespread disruption.
One of the largest schemes affected by strikes action could be the £700m digital signalling programme at Birmingham New Street, which is scheduled to be completed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
