Andy Newport manned the phone in a huge week of European action for Scottish clubs.
It was billed as a Battle of Britain but Hibs failed to fire a shot in anger as Aston Villa’s tanks rolled into Easter Road.
Robert Pender added: “Oh how sad this made Scottish football. Aston Villa could put out their under 18 team and win. The difference in class was embarrassing.” Dave Andrews emailed in: “So we keep hearing about the difference in budgets between Hibs and Villa but I bet if Villa play an eastern European team with a smaller budget than Hibs they don't win 5-0 away from home.”
Henry Moffat, Stirling, said: “Our league had respect down south after some good showings by Aberdeen, Hearts and especially Celtic over the last 20 years, but Hibs and Rangers have destroyed that with two utter trouncings to English sides in the last 12 months.
Jimmy Neil, Glasgow, said: “Rangers gave more than a decent account of themselves against PSV and for those Celtic fans who believe we were outclassed, there is not one team in Scotland better than this Dutch side. It’s obvious that the improvement in Gers is now gathering momentum and whoever we face in the league, no one team will provide the quality of PSV.”
