Back in the late 1990s and early 2000s, the Candy Bar was one of the most bouncing pre-club venues that the city centre had to offer. We take a look back at the popular Hope Street venue.
As one of Glasgow's best pre-club destinations of the early 2000s, the Candy Bar definitely hit the sweet spot.
The dress code was dead simple - there wasn't one, making the Candy Bar open and accessible to all and sundry - as long as they behaved themselves of course. "Top of the list is, for £2, a Dr Pepper's - a dash of lager and coke in a half-pint tumbler with an Amaretto depth charge. Apparently this is a favourite with the ladies and often results in them dancing on table tops.
In the 2000s, the name above the door was tweaked to Barkandi with the venue receiving a décor change in the process. The bar became the Cask and Still in 2010, but is now home to the NYC Bar and Grill.
