Norwegian star Lise Davidsen adds 'we could and probably should say it differently today' as she prepares to perform at Last Night of the Proms
last week after he allegedly hit bass singer William Thomas after the musician walked the wrong way off stage.
Davidsen thinks tackling the deficit in female conductors will help change the power dynamics and is delighted that Marin Alsop is wielding the baton at the Last Night. “It’s about time but there is still a long way to go,” she says. “Young women need female conductors to look up to and emulate.” But don’t forget to turn off your phones. “There is always someone whose phone goes off and that is more noticeable because of its higher notes.”
After this year’s Royal Albert Hall spectacular, the 36-year-old will fly straight to New York for a special headline recital at the Met. But not everyone is a fan of the “voice of the century”.
