Cyber-attacks on the Foreign Office from “persistent” Russian and Chinese hackers endangered national security of the UK, according to a former spy boss 🔎 Richard_AHolmes reports 🔗

belonging to the government department responsible for national security in 2021, at a time of increased tensions with Russia and China.

“It would have been an enormous amount of information. But none of it should have been classified, just daily business stuff.” The former intelligence officer added that depending on the time taken to identify and kick out the hackers from FCDO systems, the hackers would have been able to glean “useful intelligence” relating to the daily inner workings of the FCDO through “detecting patterns of activity”.

But last week the Government was rocked by two further unintended releases of secret data at the UK election watchdog and Northern Ireland’s police service, piling pressure on the government to increase information security.
