EXCLUSIVE: Food Standards Scotland, mainly funded by the Government, has paused or scaled back a number of its campaigns to balance its books.
Scotland’s food safety watchdog has slashed programmes for healthy eating and nutrition in a bid to fill a budget black hole.
“That these incredibly important schemes are being halted due to a lack of funding is seriously concerning. Another board paper stated: “The impact of EU exit has been heavy for FSS bringing significant financial and staffing pressures on operational delivery.” “This was an essential piece of work to carry out as we balance a limited resource allocation, with the protection of Scottish consumers from food safety risks and promoting healthy eating at the forefront of our decisions.”
