Engineers are currently working to fix the fault but it is understood some homes could be left without power until at least 11am on Tuesday
Residents in Shetland are expected to spend the night without power after heavy snowfall led to a power cut on the island. A blackout was reported to energy company SSE around 3pm on Monday after freezing temperatures overnight.
SSE tweeted: "We're sorry for the loss of supply affecting #Shetland. Due to heavy snowfall we have multiple faults on our network. Investigations and repairs are underway, and we aim to restore as many supplies as we can in stages, and we expect to have your power restored by 21:00." The Highland and Islands police division posted a statement on social media for Shetland residents. They said: "Due to heavy snow, please avoid travelling unless absolutely necessary.
