More than 60 people moved out of the Lion Hotel and surrounding premises spent the evening at the Peach Tree restaurant over English Bridge. Read more:
A restaurant took in nearly 70 evacuated people after a hotel and nearby properties were shut by police.
One hotel worker said people were asked to move 200m away from the scene to the other side of the English Bridge, across the River Severn. A worker at the nearby Lion and Pheasant hotel confirmed staff and guests were escorted from the premises by police at about 20:30 GMT.
