Temperatures have plummeted to -7C in Greater Manchester but an end to the cold snap is coming
An end to the country's arctic cold snap is finally in sight, as temperatures across Greater Manchester plummeted well below freezing this morning.
The cold snap is thought to have been partly due to high pressure over Russia, and a second high pressure system which has built up across Greenland and Iceland. According to the Met Office, lingering freezing fog will gradually clear throughout this morning , leaving a dry and mostly sunny day across the North West.
