A number of retailers have joined in banning disposable barbecues from their stores following a wave of fires during the heatwaves experiences across the UK this summer.
It comes after firefighters said on Thursday, August 11, that they believed a barbecue had caused a fire at Spring Lakes Watersports and Leisure Centre in Long Eaton. The fire was 100m by 15m and involved small trees and shrubbery. As temperatures continue to soar across Nottinghamshire and the rest if the country, Tesco and Sainsbury's have followed. Tesco has confirmed that the ban on disposable barbecues is a temporary measure, and has ensured that they will be back in stock when the weather permits.
A spokesperson for Sainsbury's said: "As a precautionary measure we are removing from sale all disposable barbecues until further notice. Safety is our highest priority and we have made this decision due to the hot and dry weather that we are currently experiencing across the country."
