Tomatoes can be frozen for around six months, but are best done so chopped or as a liquid.

Puree or chop your tomatoes using a food processor or blender, then seal into a container and place in your freezer ready for quick and waste-free meals.Many people are wary of freezing rice, but did you know it can last for up to six months in your freezer? You do have to be careful to ensure bacteria doesn’t form, storing cooked rice in a microwavable container and freezing as soon as it’s cooled. Ensure you thoroughly heat it before serving, too.‘Once you peel off their skin, you can freeze bananas by slicing them up and placing them in an airtight container or bag before placing them in the freezer,’ says Richard.

It can be handy to separate a loaf into two or three slices and wrap in cling film to avoid it sticking together, while crusty bread like French baguettes are best eaten fresh.Before freezing cooked pasta – which can last up to three months when stores correctly – let it cool for a while and drizzle it with olive oil to keep it from sticking together in the freezer.

Pasta that is slightly undercooked is the best for freezing and it avoids turning starchy when you reheat it.
