Well, the SW1 herd is starting to move again, but this time in its social media habits. Yes, the rapid rise of Mark Zuckerberg’s, gaining 100 million users in less than a week, has caught the eye of many an MP and journo who have long been addicted to Twitter.rising toxicity of Elon Musk’s big blue birdThe sheer amount of vitriol, indeed borderline harassment, that is directed at MPs on Twitter has turned it into a hostile environment.
I got a small taste of the toxicity last week when I dared to criticise the Just Stop Oil-inspired orange confetti. I felt that by intruding in the family event of someone who is no longer in office, the protestor had crossed a line of decency. At its worst, Twitter is the online equivalent of road rage, with people saying things behind the distance of their phone screen that they’d never dream of saying to someone face to face.the way it encourages trigger-happy politicians to shoot from the lip. “The trouble with Twitter, the instantness of it – too many twits might make a twat.”
