Two men have appeared in court charged with unlawfully killing 25-year-old Jack
Jack Jermy-Doyle was on a night out in the city centre in the early hours of August 12 when he was allegedly attacked by Jak Fairclough and Jake Parkinson at the junction of Harris Street and Birley Street, close to the Flag Market, at 2.40am.
Jack was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital and put on a ventilator but the decision was later made to cease treatment with Jack's family agreeing to donate his organs which went on to save the lives of four people. Jack was posthumously awarded The Order of St John which recognises those who have made the "selfless contribution of adding life and giving hope to others from the gift of organ donation".
Jack's girlfriend, Kaitlyn, and his dad both sat in the public gallery accompanied by friends and family liaison officers from Lancashire Constabulary. Fairclough, wearing a Stone Island top, and Parkinson, who was dressed in a black and grey tracksuit, spoke only to confirm their ages and addresses.
The pair were bailed to attend Preston Crown Court on August 31. Bail conditions require them to be electronically tagged to remain indoors overnight and not to contact prosecution witness Robert Jones. Jack's family said in a tribute at the time: "No words can describe the utter devastation we as a family are feeling. Jack was a funny, charismatic, amazing young man who had so much to offer this world and we are truly broken that he has been taken from us so soon. He will forever be in our hearts and thoughts."
