A welcome boost for some
Another round of cost of living payments is set to come for people who are on Universal Credit as well as a other income-based benefits. This comes after two payments were given out by the Government at the start of 2023.
Around 40 per cent of the 5.8 million people who claim Universal Credit have jobs and get the benefit to top up their earnings, so this will help workers as well as the sick and unemployed. Around eight million households on means-tested benefits had £301 between April 26 and May 17, and then 6.7 million individuals on disability benefits were given £150 between June 20 and July 4 - though some are yet to receive the money because their payments are being handled differently.
Almost six in 10 households – or 16.7 million – reported making at least one adjustment such as cutting back on essentials, dipping into savings, selling possessions or borrowing to cover essential spending such as utility bills, housing costs, groceries, school supplies and medicines in the last month. With all that in mind, it's clear why many want to know when more cost of living support is coming - here's what we know so far.
