Former president Donald Trump is to turn himself in to the notorious Fulton County jail later to be booked on more than a dozen charges - all concerning his alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election result in the state of Georgia. It is expected that Trump will have a mugshot taken.
The former White House chief of staff under Donald Trump surrendered at Fulton County jail in Georgia earlier this evening.
The former US president posted on his social media platform Truth Social that his"arrest time" will be a 7.30pm EST, while also repeating false claims about the 2020 election. He commands the Republican Party. It is a command so strong that few inside are willing to criticise him. The second point: more broadly in America, voters don't want Trump and they don't want Biden either. Both men have controversies around them and both are old.
Donald Trump and 18 others have been accused of trying to illegally overturn the 2020 election result in Georgia. Once one of Trump's top allies in the House of Representatives, he is also accused of developing a plan to disrupt and delay the congressional certification of the electoral votes on 6 January, 2021.
