A former professor admits being called Barbara Oppenheimer has been hard this summer
The release of Barbie and Oppenheimer in cinemas on the same weekend was cultural phenomenon in July, but has caused trouble for one woman named Barbara Oppenheimer. Both films have been huge successes, with Barbie becoming Warner Bros' top grossing production ever, earning $1.344billion at the box office.
Meanwhile, the Mattel doll's real name is Barbara, completing her strong links to the movies. In a recent interview with Slate, the former Boston University professor revealed how the films have affected her life. Barbara says she went to see Oppenheimer on opening weekend given her family links to the father of the atomic bomb and to see "how they treated his [J.Robert] story". She then went to see the Barbie film two weeks after with her husband and says she loved both "in different ways" and couldn't pick a favourite.
As the 'Barbenheimer' trend has been all over the internet this summer, its no wonder that when Barbara tries booking into hotels, staff have to double check. She revealed: "I'm on vacation right now, and when I checked in at the hotel, I said, 'Barbie Oppenheimer!' The guy said, 'Are you pulling my leg?'"
