Capcom has acquired Swordcanes, a support studio which has previously worked on Street Fighter 6, Final Fantasy 16 and Hi-Fi Rush.
Swordcanes’ website lists the studios’ strengths as 3D character modeling, 3D environment creation, 3D animation, and 2D animation.
“Swordcanes’ strength lies in 3D computer graphics production technology in consumer home video game development, and the studio has carried out work on major Capcom titles in the past,” Capcom stated. “As such, Capcom decided to make the studio its wholly-owned subsidiary to sustainably bolster its developmental and technological capabilities.”
Alongside its announcement, Capcom also claimed it is on track to achieve 11 years of full-year operating profit growth. “During the three months ended June 30, 2023, Capcom’s core Digital Contents business delivered sales of 13.5 million units for its home video game software, surpassing the 11.7 million units in sales in the same period of the previous year and significantly contributing to the value of the company’s content,” it said.Capcom has had a string of hit games in 2023, with both Street Fighter 6 and the
