Ricky Hamblin, 43, was jailed for attacking his partner and mother of his child during a two-night stay for his birthday.
A couple's romantic trip ended in violence after a thug battered his girlfriend in a hotel room and left her screaming for help from the balcony.
Ms Kelley tried to leave the room but Hamblin blocked her path and locked the door. The complainant attempted to use her phone to call for help, but Hamblin - of Pembroke Road in Bootle - took it from her. He was found to be in possession of a small amount of cannabis, and became abusive towards arresting officers, telling them he would have "punched them if he had not been handcuffed". Under interview, he said he "couldn't remember a thing" but accepted that Ms Kelley's account would be truthful.
Addressing the court on behalf of the "brilliant dad" and "neighbour who goes the extra mile", defence counsel Charles Lander said: "It is rare to have someone with no recollection of events to say 'if that's what she said, that's what happened'. I hope the court will accept that there is genuine remorse.
Sentencing, Judge Watson said: "Unhappily, although you have these abilities as a father, you have another side which has shown itself repeatedly over the years - the violent side to your character. This is not the first time you have been violent to her.
