Nottinghamshire Police say the man died at the scene of the incident.
A man has died following an incident on the A1 near Newark which closed part of the road for nearly 12 hours. Nottinghamshire Police says officers were called to the incident just before 9.30pm on Tuesday .
The man died at the scene and a police investigation into the incident has now been launched. Details of the incident are not yet clear, but it caused a lengthy closure of the A1 in both directions. DC Liah Lane, from Nottinghamshire Police's serious collision investigation unit, said: "Our thoughts remain with the man's family and friends at this very difficult time. I would also like to thank drivers for their patience and cooperation while the road was closed. Inquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing."
National Highways first confirmed at 10pm on Monday that the A1 had been closed in both directions between the junction for the A46 and the B6326. The southbound carriageway reopened at around 3am, before the northbound side reopened at around 8am.
