Steak bake bargains all round!
Greggs has opened its latest Outlet store selling day-old food at lower prices to help cut food waste and help people struggling financially.
The popular high street bakery chain currently has 30 outlet branches across the UK - including Preston - where shoppers can pick up favourites like sausage rolls and steak bakes for up to 75% less than what you would pay at a normal Greggs store. They are perfectly fine to eat, but unlike at other Greggs, the products are sold cold but you can always take them home to reheat.
The food is sent to the stores if the firm's nearby factories have made too many batches, normal priced stores have been unable to sell all their stock, or if items are misshapen. Most are located in the North of the UK and Greggs wants to have 50 Outlets by 2025.Also, some of the profits of each Outlet go to The Greggs Foundation and are given to local community groups.
Greggs chief executive Roisin Currie said: “As a leading food on the go retailer in the UK, it’s important that we do our bit to put an end to food waste and help to tackle poverty, hunger and deprivation across all the communities we operate in. "We have three channels for giving good food a second chance – we donate it to charities who can make use of it. we offer it to our customers at a discount via the Too Good To Go app and we sell it at a discount through our outlet shops.”
