One resident hadn't had a bath in over a year

Plans for the transformation of a Nottinghamshire care home that was closed due to safety concerns have been approved. Proposals were put forward to convert the old Beeston Lodge Nursing Home on the corner of Meadow Road and Lily Grove, Beeston into 14 apartments.

The 28-room care home was closed in 2020 after a CQC inspection found residents were unsafe. One resident had not had a bath for over a year and management at the home had not notified the CQC of deaths, incidents and injuries there, according to the report. The plans will retain and use the existing window and door openings and keep external alterations to a minimum, according to planning documents. Under the new plans, the existing garden at the rear of the property will be retained for private amenity space and existing car park wrapping around the front of the property would be kept.Developers said the existing large building was no longer fit for its previous purpose and had "limited future purposes due to its size".

The site's architect said the applicant was willing to negotiate with the local authority about affordable housing provision. It was suggested the design and size of the properties will lend themselves to rent or sale at the more affordable end of the market. In a planning document, PDG Architectural on behalf of applicant Owen Phillips, said: "The proposals for the above residential development are supportable as the proposals look to re-use an existing building that was no longer viable under its previous use. The proposals also provide much-needed housing to the area and make use of an existing derelict site which is in line with a number of the local authority’s planning policies.
