Simon Wallace booted the shar pei in the ribs so hard the pet was flipped onto its side.Wallace, 27, appeared from custody at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Tuesday and pled guilty to causing an animal unnecessary suffering.
Sheriff John Cook jailed Wallace for 96 days after noting he had an “appalling record” for domestic offending.Earlier fiscal depute Clare Green told the court how Wallace’s partner was walking her dog and the accused was also present. Ms Green said: “An argument took place. The accused has kicked dog to the torso and rib area causing the dog to flip over onto its side.The court heard shocked onlookers called police and officers arrived on the scene.
Ms Green said the officers “noted no visible injuries to the dog” which “presented as happy and healthy”.Mr Stewart said Wallace had spent a month on remand following the offence, which took place on Balcarres Street in the city’s Morningside area on June 24.
